Winnipeg’s Most Popular Employers

July 15, 2014 – Although its name may mean ‘Muddy Waters’, Winnipeg is quite the
vibrant city, with numerous cultures, annual festivals, sporting events, and a railway
and transportation hub. This city is also known as the ‘Gateway to the West’, ‘Slurpee
Capital of the World’, ‘Centre of Canada’, ‘Windy City’, and more.

Frankly, there is probably no other city in Canada with such diverse nicknames as the
Peg.

Whether you’re a Pegger, or a Pegger-to-be, you’re probably curious about
employment. Which employers are Winnipeg job seekers buzzing about these days?
Neuvoo.ca, an international job aggregator based in Montreal, has analyzed its database
to find out which ten companies are most popular among job seekers in Winnipeg.

1. Manitoba Government
2. Cabela’s
3. University of Manitoba
4. SNC-Lavalin
5. Target
6. City of Winnipeg
7. Birchwood Automotive Group
8. Magellan Aerospace
9. Buhler Industries
10. KGS Group

Methodology

The top ten employers were chosen based on job seekers’ behaviour toward employers’ job
postings on neuvoo’s database.

By comparing the number of a company’s job postings (impressions) to the number of
job seekers’ clicks on such postings, we could infer the effectiveness of an employer’s
career ‘advertising campaign.’

A simple ratio was calculated for each Winnipeg employer on neuvoo’s database, called the
click-through ratio (CTR). The CTR, or click : impressions, captures job seekers’ response to,
and interest in, employer postings, and thus, their brands. The higher the CTR, the more interest
in the employer.

The CTRs were ranked, and the top ten employers were published in this study.
