Interested in Becoming a Pharmacy Technician in Manitoba?
Pharmacy Technicians are vital members of a pharmacy - not only do they work with registered pharmacists to dispense, prepare and compound medications, they also work with other health care providers to ensure patients are receiving the medications and treatment they need.
Did You Know?
In Manitoba, Pharmacy Technicians are governed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM). There has been many changes and development in the field of Pharmacy within the past few years. In January of 2014, the new Pharmaceutical Act came into effect. This new act affected Pharmacy Technicians too as the new regulations required Pharmacy Technicians to attain all qualifications listed in the regulations and be listed with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba in order to practice in the province.
Under this new Pharmaceutical Act, if you are not already employed in the field (and qualify through your past work experience in pharmacy), you can become a Pharmacy Technician by going through a Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) accredited Pharmacy Technician training program like the one offered at Robertson College.
Like any regulated body, you must challenge an exam before you can become a Pharmacy Technician. While the process can sound a bit complicated, the end result is a fun and rewarding career! As the field of pharmacy continues to evolve and become more patient-focused, qualified Pharmacy Technicians will play an even greater role in ensuring patient health.
