Administrative Professionals are integral to the offices they work in.  On any given day and at any given time, they are juggling many different tasks, details and challenging situations.  To be successful in the role, Administrative Professionals must have a wide variety of skills and qualities.  Here are the top five skills of successful Administrative Professionals:
  1. Communication Skills
    As an Administrative Professional, you will be interacting with a wide variety of people. From clients to colleagues, you will need to have effective written and verbal communication skills to be an effective team member. 
  2. Organizational Skills
    Professionals in your office will be depending on you for various tasks. Be it scheduling meetings, getting back to customers, filing, photocopying or even ordering catering for events, a successful Administrative Professional will be able to keep all the information organized and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  3. Technology Skills
    As workplaces become more reliant on technology, Administrative Professionals will need to display proficiency with standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners and more.  As most of your work will be carried out on a computer, you will need to have typing skills as well as the ability to navigate around popular office software such as Microsoft Office.
  4. Problem-Solving Skills
    In the role of an Administrative Professional, you will encounter many unexpected situations.  A skilled Administrative Professional will have the ability to troubleshoot conflicts and exhibit sound judgement when making decisions in the absence of direction.
  5. Customer Service
    Whether they are internal customers (such as your boss or other departments) or external customers, as an Administrative Professional, you will be required to provide assistance and customer service.  A successful Administrative Professional will be able to interact professionally with customers at all times and be able to provide timely service as required.
