Mental Health Week: Mental Health Tips to Keep You On Track

May 1st - 7th is Mental Health Week, and it's a great opportunity to take stock of your own mental health and make some adjustments and improvements as needed. Much like physical health, being proactive about your mental health is a great habit, and can help you avoid more serious issues in the future.

Practice Self-Care
Self-care is the practice of nurturing and comforting yourself either in response to negative feelings, or just as a healthy habit. It can include enjoying your favorite activities, taking some quiet time to yourself, or anything else that improves your state of mind.

Find Balance
It's not uncommon to over-commit yourself to too many responsibilities at once, and this can be very detrimental to your mental health over time. Find balance and make sure you have time each day to recharge.

Ask for support
Sometimes we can't handle our problems and emotions by ourselves and need to seek out the support of others. This can be from a friend, a family member, or even a professional. Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Do Research
It's a good idea to do some research into your own background and what mental illnesses you may be at risk for. Talk to your doctor about what you can do to manage your risks and how you can treat any symptoms that should arise.

Your mental health is just as important as any other facet of your overall health, and should be tended to with care and attention. Following these tips is a great first step in managing your own health and well-being.
